Phil’s Bar-B-Que Pit — A Taste of Alabama in Black Mountain, NC
Phil and Jackie Garrison know that whenever they return to Alabama, there are always a couple of places where they have to stop and eat BBQ.
After years of missing their Alabama BBQ, Phil and Jackie created Phil’s Bar-B-Que Pit, a family BBQ restaurant, in the style of some of their favorite old BBQ joints. The focal point of Phil’s is the “Pit” where patrons can watch Phil cook his mouth watering BBQ over a blend of oak and hickory hardwoods. Some of Phil’s specialties are Pork Ribs, Chopped Pork, Chicken, Beef brisket and Sausage.
This is the kind of BBQ Jackie and I grew up eating. Now locals and tourists visiting the area can experience the kind of BBQ we took for granted growing up in Alabama.
If you aren’t in the mood for BBQ, Phil’s also offers Salads, Stuffed Baked potatoes, Burgers, Buffalo Wings, Hot Dogs, Hamburger Steaks smothered in onions and Quesadillas. We even offer a huge fried 8 oz. fish filet sandwich with lettuce, tomato and homemade tartar sauce.
All of the items on the menu are available for takeout. We also sell meat by the pound, sides by the pint, quart or gallon and we can cater your biggest event.
Although most of the old Alabama BBQ joints serve only a sweet tomato based BBQ sauce, Phil knew that here in the mountains, he would have to offer an assortment of sauces. Phil’s makes a homemade sweet tomato based sauce, a hot version of the same, a vinegar based “Eastern Carolina” sauce, a mustard sauce and a white BBQ Sauce.
Diners looking for gourmet food with white tablecloths might not be at ease here. But if you love to smell BBQ cooking, relaxing in a family friendly comfortable setting and enjoying great BBQ, then Phil’s Bar-B-Que Pit is for you.
BBQ is also a welcome offering for golfers at the Garrison’s Shadowbrook Mini Golf next door. Although the mini golf is only open seasonally, Phil’s is open daily year round.
